Defending Clients Against Felony DUI Charges

Many people think they can “talk their way out” of a DUI charge. This does not work. Having a conversation with police often only makes the situation worse for you. At your first opportunity, call a lawyer.

Located in Kansas City, The Law Office of Andrew T. Christie, LLC, helps clients in surrounding communities defend against felony DUI charges. I am on your side. I will fight for you.

Felony DUI Charges

In Missouri, your third DUI will be charged as a class D felony. Penalties for a conviction are harsh and include:

  • Up to five years in prison
  • Fines up to $5,000
  • 10-year driver’s license revocation
  • The installation of an ignition interlock device (IID) in your vehicle
  • Probation
  • Mandatory alcohol treatment program

Subsequent DUI charges carry longer prison sentences and larger fines. If you are designated as a prior and persistent offender, you can be charged with a class A felony — the most serious charge in Missouri — and sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.

For many, felony DUI charges go hand in hand with other charges like driving on a suspended license and vehicular homicide. The compounding effect of these can have life-changing consequences.

Explaining Your Rights, Protecting Your Future

Being charged with a felony DUI is scary. At The Law Office of Andrew T. Christie, LLC, I take the fear out of the unknown. I will explain your charges, your rights and your options. Once you know what you are facing, you can help make important decisions, such as whether to accept a plea deal or go to trial.

“I always attempt to negotiate plea deals. But my clients know, if a good deal can’t be reached I will go to court and fight for their rights.” — Andrew Christie

Building A Strong Defense

We examine every aspect of your arrest:

  • Was the stop legal?
  • Did police have probable cause to issue field sobriety tests?
  • Were field sobriety tests properly administered?
  • Where you given the opportunity to speak with a lawyer?
  • Were Miranda rights properly issued?

If police made any missteps during your arrest, I will find out and will use it in your defense. By throwing out evidence and questioning police behavior, I am often able to negotiate better plea deals, get charges reduced and even win acquittals in court.
