6 people arrested after drug bust in Miller County

On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2019 | Drug Offenses |

Six Missouri residents were arrested on drug charges on Sept. 19, according to a news release issued by the Miller County Sheriff’s Office. The arrests took place in Mount Pleasant.

News reports indicate that deputies from the sheriff’s office and the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at an area home. During the ensuing search, they allegedly found a large quantity of suspected drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, prescription pills, and marijuana. They also reportedly seized a stolen motorcycle and an illegal handgun.

Among those arrested was a 34-year-old Jefferson City woman, who has been charged with first-degree drug trafficking, delivery of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property, which are all felonies. She is being held on a $200,000 bond. Another of those arrested, a 34-year-old Versailles man, has been charged with first-degree drug trafficking, delivery of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is also being held on a $200,000 bond. Another defendant, a 37-year-old Eldon man, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and held on a $50,000 bond. Three other defendants have been charged with possession of a controlled substance and held on a $25,000 bond.

People who have been arrested for drug trafficking could face serious consequences if a conviction is obtained, including lengthy prison terms, heavy fines and a permanent criminal record. As a result, it might be prudent for them to seek the assistance of a criminal defense attorney. After assessing the case, the attorney might find sufficient evidence to fight the charges. If not, legal counsel might still be able to negotiate a plea deal that reduces the charges in exchange for the defendant’s guilty plea. This may lead to a more lenient sentence.
